Japanese Bases (Rec. 9.50 p.m.) SYDNEY, Mar. 1. The Japanese bases throughout the north-eastern sector of the South-west Pacific Command area continue to receive a merciless pounding from Allied air forces. General MacArthur’s communique to-day reports heavy blows against Rabaul and Cape Hoskins, in N?v’ Britain, Borpop in New Ireland, Wewak, Hansa Bay and Madang in New' Guinea. A further 160 tons of bombs were dropped on installations at Lakunal and Vunapope when a great force of Solornons-oased Liberator Mitchell, Avenger and pauntless bombers, escorted by Corsair. Hellcat, and Lightning fighters, raided Rabaul. More than 100 buildings and warehouses in the Vunapope supply area, have been destroyed in our recent attacks. Hansa Bay was bit with 123 tons of explosives and Wewak with 5.3 tons.
