NEW OIL BARGE

A Side-on Launch

(N.Z.P.A.) WELLINGTON. Mar. 1. An oil barge which was launched at Wellington to-day was the first allsteel vessel to be’launched side-on in the history of New Zealand. The barge is 180 feet long. 36 feet wide and 15 feet deep, and can carry 1400 tons of oil. It is all welded. Each of the two cargo pumps can handle 100 tons of oil an hour. There are self-contained living quarters of three rooms for the caretaker and his wife.
