SABOTAGE IN GREECE

German Reprisals

(Rec. 8.10 p.m.) LONDON. Jan. 13. The Germans carried out large scale manoeuvres in the suburbs of Athens last week, according to Greek sources in London. The object was practice in repelling an attack on the Greek capital. After the manoeuvres armoured forces paraded the streets to impress the population. After the wholesale destruction of entire towns and villages in Greece by Germans as reprisals for sabotage by Inhabitants, refugees have fled from their homes to the large towns hoping to find food and shelter. Wherever sabotage is committed the Germans as a reprisal destroy all towns and villages within 25 miles. Many refugees, hungry, half-naked and barefooted, have had to make their way across the mountains to reach a haven of comparative safety. A special committee has been formed in Athens under the chairmanship of a Greek general to take care of refugees. Bombs On Piraeus

In good weather, R.A.F. heavy bombers attacked the harbour and installations at Piraeus (Greece) during Tuesday night, says an air communique issued in the Middle East. The bombing was well concentrated and many bursts on and near the quays were' seen. One large and several smaller fires were started, and were still visible when our aircraft were well on the return journey. On Wednesday tw’O supply schooners were attacked north of Monemoasis, in Southern Greece. One was blown out of the water and the other was set on fire, sinking. None of our aircraft is mussing.
