ARRIVAL IN INDIA

West African Frontier Force RUGBY, January 13. Ino first West African force ever to leave for overseas has arrived in India, and come under the command of Lord Louis Mountbatten. Recruited from the four colonies—Nigeria, Gold Coast, Sierra Leone and Gambia—’these troops of the Royal West African Frontier Force arc members of one of the oldest colonial forces. After the East African campaign General 81 r George Gifford began building up and training the force. All the personnel are volunteers. The expeditionary force is better trained and equipped than any colonial force ever to leave Africa. Never before have there been so many literate African soldiers, so many African technicians and tradesmen, or such a large body of African infantrymen and gunners trained ’n modern methods of war. West African troops fought magnificently in the conquest of Italian Somaliland and Abyssinia and they were among the first troops to enter Italian Somaliland. General Sir A. G. Cunningham gave unstinted praise to their work.
