TIMARU LIBRARY
Alterations In Progress MORE ROOM IN LENDING SECTION “Needless to say I am pleased to see that these extensions are being carried out, as if we did not have this extra accommodation we would not know what to do with all our books in a year or so,” said Miss A. K. Elliot (Borough Librarian) when commenting yesterday on the additions and alterations at the Timaru Public Library now In progress. The alterations are designed to give more space to the lending library, and, with this in view, the reference department has been transferred to the ground floor and will occupy a section of the present newspaper room. The lending section will also take in the present staff room, which means that, after the present partitions have been demolished, the subscriber will walk straight into the lending room. A new wing is being built-out from the magazine section, and will take up a portion of the Borough Council yard. The wing will be three storeys high, the ground floor being part of the newspaper section; the first floor will be the staff room, and the top floor will be the library workroom. The newspaper room on the ground floor will be separated from the reference room by a low partition of book shelves. Questioned on what alterations were being made to the children's section, Miss Elliot replied that th*? present reconstruction did not include any alterations to this part of the library. The estimated cost of (be library reconstruction is £787.
