Pacific Area Fixture PACIFIC BASE, January 2. Sick and wounded meh of thef Third Division back from the front ' .'ne enjoved a race meeting on New Year’s Day, together with the personnel •of base units. ■ ' , “Rancid," by "Butter Out of T»1, ’ was a popular winner. “Willie Win," by “a Horse out of Breath,” which followed “Rancid" home in the fifth add last race of the day, ran true to'his breeding, as did most of the entrants of 32 horses gathered from various owners throughout the district. The staff of a convalestept depot ran "Relief,” by "Leg Out of Plaster,” which covered four furlongs in a little over a minute. ■ ’ ■ The most successful jockey was J Pinn, a former apprentice to H. and A. Cutts. of Riccarton. with two wins. L M. Pell, a brother of the Auckland rider, S. Pell, took one race, as did C. L. Goulsbro. who has ridden with success at many New Zealand meetings. . The fifth event, for which the totalisator was also open, was for local riders. The totalisator figures were a little more than 7000 dollars.
