ROLL OF HONOUR
Private A. A. Opie
Private Andrew Austin Opie, of No. 11 Machine Gun Battalion, who was killed in action on December 10, 1943, was the third and youngest son of Mr and Mrs W. J. Opie, St. Leonard's Road. Temuka. Private Opie wasborp in Fairiie on April 1, 1921, and attended the primary school at Pleasant Valley, later finishing his education at the
Temuka District High School. After leaving school, he joined the staff Of the South Canterbury Power Board it Temuka. remaining with it until he left to serve overseas. Private Opie was very keen on all forms of sport and was an active member of the Temuka Amateur Athletic Club, the Temuka Football Club, and the Presbyterian Tennis Club. In 1940 he won the New Zealand junior pole-vault championship. Of a happy and popular disposition. Andy will be greatly missed by all.
