Eleven New Zealanders, either members of the R.A.F. or R.N.Z.A.F. on active service overseas, are named in the New Year Honours List, details of which have been received from London by the Air Department, Wellington. The recipients are: Commander of the Order of the British Empire McKee. Acting-Group Captain Andrew, D. 5.0., D.F.C., A.F.C., R.A.F. Bar to Air Force Cross Moir, Wing Commander James Leonard, A.F.C., R.A.F. Air Force Cross Varc, Acting-Wing Commander Kenneth Frederick, R.A.F. Mother, Mrs F. W. Vare, Wellington. Daniell, Acting-Squadron Leader Rex Donald, R.A.F. Father, Mr F. C. Daniell. Masterton. Hcaphy, Acting-Squadron Leader Walter Desmond, R.A.F. Father, Mr P. C. Heaphy, Greymouth. Leslie, Acting-Squadron Leader Roy Alexander, R.A.F. Mother, Mrs M. R. Leslie. Waitara. Player, Warrant Officer Howard William, R.N.Z.A.F. Wife, Mrs H. W. Player, Wellington. Kinder, Acting-Squadron Leader Maurice Craig, R.A.F. Mother, Mrs H. M. Kinder, Auckland. Commended The following are listed as having received commendations for their services : Thomson, Flight Lieutenant Charles William Halliwell, R.A.F. Father, Mr P. Thomson, Stratford. King. Flying Ouicer Wallace Russell, R.N.Z.A.F. Father, Mr J. King, Te Kuiti. Atkins, Flying Officer Hilton James Valentine, R.N.Z.A.F. Sister, Mrs G. J. Barbour, Timaru. Group Captain McKee and Wing Commander Moir were pre-war entrants into the R.A.F. Accepted as a member of the Civil Reserve of Pilots at the beginning of 1938, Squadron Leader Heaphv gained his civil pilot’s A licence in the same year as a member of the West Coast United Aero Club, Greymouth. Later accepted for a short service commission in the R.A.F., he commenced his training in Englan dearly in 1939. He was bom at Greymouth in 1916 and received his secondary education at the Marist Brothers' School, Greymouth, St. Patrick's college, Silverstrea'm, Wellington, and the Technical High School, Greymouth.
