RICCARTON NOTES
< Special) CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 7. Manakore had his first run this week over the pony hurdles and B. H. Brodie will give him a good trial in this department. D. Cotton has only Te Awe Awe and Some Sing in work at present. They look in good order for Trentham engagements. During their absence Hunting Charm. Pallid and Denary will have a run in the paddock with their shoes off. Arrangements have been made to break Gay Fort to harness, as a preliminary to spelling him from the track for a year. It is hoped that this treatment he will come back to training cured of his bleeding attacks. H. and A. Cutts have Desert Strife and Foxleap in work again and they may be ready to resume racing at the Banks Peninsula meeting, early in March. A couple of their two-year-olds who arc working along well are Record Voyage, a well grown brown colt by Phaleron Bay-Fast Passage and Dancing Fawn, a quality filly by Paper ■Jlipper-Winsome Hind. They may be raced at the Canterbury Jockey Club’s non-totalisator meeting next month. L. Cavalier is working a pair of two-year-olds who may do well next season. Centime is a filly by Defaulter from Citoyenne while the other is a well-
grown gelding, of great promise, by Nightly from Cessation. B. H. Brodie came home after the Greymouth meeting where his two horses raced badly. Miss Clorane will be spelled for a few months. Manakore, who has been a great disappointment since he came here from Wingatui where he had a reputation, will be given a trial as a jumper. The two-year-old Liquidate, by Defaulter-Divinette, has been taken in hand again and will be got ready for autumn racing. Full Chase and Good Cast will not be sent to Trentham. After racing at Wingatui on Saturday, they will come home and will be prepared quietly for autumn racing.
L. Cavalier, who has a reputation for his handling of unruly horses, had the two-year-old, Lady Sylvia and the four-year-old mare, Rata, placed under his care recently. He has had them at the track this week and apparently their manners have been improved. He hopes to have them racing in the autumn. Cavalier has made another start on Mr J. M. Samson's Gold Branch, who may show some more form in the autumn.
