A total of 29.22 inches of rain was recorded at Geraldine by Mr H. J. Bowkett during 1943, compared with 26.55 inches in 1942, and 32.77 inches in 1941. The rainfall was below the average for the district and less than an inch was recorded in four separate months. In the period from September to November 13.1 inches were registered. Annual rainfalls since 1916 were as follows:—l943, 29.22 in.; 1942, 26.55 in; 1941, 32.77 in.; 1940, 28.92 in.; 1939, 18.14 in.; 1938, 48.79 in.; 1937, 29.51 in.; 1936, 37.55 in.; 1935, 29.02 in.; 1934, 32.33 in.; 1933, 27.34 in.; 1932, 31.49 m.; 1931, 19.85 in.; 1930, 33.97 in.; 1929, 34.61 in.; 1928, 31.53 in.; 1927, 26.62 in.; 1926, 32.39 in.; 1925, 36.26 in.; 1924, 24.32 in.; 1923, 27.50 in.; 1922, 24.57 in.; 1921, 24.34 in.; 1920, 27.58 in.; 1919, 28.50 in.; 1918, 2754 in.; 1917, 34.51 in.; 1916, 29.76 in. _ The monthly rainfall for the last three years was as follows: 1943. 1942. 1941.
Gift To R.S.A.
Mrs M. McClure has presented the Geraldine Returned Services Association with an enlarged photograph of her late husband, Second-Lieutenant Wilfred McClure. Mr McClure, who was one of the foundation members of the Geraldine Association, was president for nine years. The Association expressed thanks for the gift and informed Mrs McClure that when the permanent club rooms were established, the photograph would be given a place of honour.
Successful Dance
There was a record crowd at the annual New Year ball held by the Hall Committee at Pleasant Valley on New Years night. Music was supplied by an orchestra, extras being played by Miss J. Fifleld and Messrs J. Coulter and L. Fifleld. A “Monte Carlo” waltz was won by Mrs Hammond and Mr A. McDonald.' Mr F. J. Wood acted as M.C.
Golden Wedding
Tlie golden wedding of Mr and Mrs W A Sherratt, of Geraldine was celebrated on New Year’s Day when relatives gathered at their home. The wedding of Mr Sherratt and Miss E. Stonehouse took place on January 3, 1894, and was solemnised by Rev. M. Woodward at the Geraldine Methodist Church. They have lived in Geraldine since then and have always taken a n active interest in community organisations and the welfare of Geraldine. Mr W. A. Sherratt was a member of the Geraldine Borough Council for many years, and his son is a present member of the council. There is a surviving son and daughter and two grandchildren of the marriage.
