AIRCRAFT ACCIDENT
Two War Correspondents Killed (8.55 p.m.) SYDNEY, Dec. 28. An Australian war correspondent, Mr P. A. Rayner, and an American correspondent. Mr Brydon Taves, were killed in an air accident in New Guinea early on Sunday. Mr Haydon Leonard, of the Australian Broadcasting Commission, and Mr lan Morrison, of the London “Times” were, slightly injured in the same crash. The correspondents were setting out to gain eye-witness accounts of the Allied landing at Cape Gloucester, but the plane crashed soon after taking off. Mr Ravner represented the Sydney “Sun” and “Melbourne Herald. " and Mr Taves was Australian manager of the American United Press. Mr Rayner was 34 and leaves a widow and two sons. He had covered many operational assignments. Mr Taves was 29. He was bom in New York and educated in England. He married the Australian actress. Diana Parnham. this year.
