TRIAL OF DOCTOR
Alleged Malpractice
(N.Z.P.A.) AUCKLAND. Nov. 11. The trial of a Ngaruawahia doctor. George Brownlee Isdale, aged 51. on eight charges of illegally using an instrument with intent to procure a miscarriage, and one of conspiring to procure a miscarriage, was continued before Mr Justice Callan to-day.
In response to an inquiry from the foreman of the jury as to the probable duration of the case, his Honour said his guess was that they would be detained there for the first three days of next week.
The director of surgery at the Waikato Hospital. Dr. Graham, was further cross-examined on various aspects of obstetrics and obsterical practice. Witness agreed that there were certain circumstances in which it might be necessary to remove pregnancy in order to save a woman’s'life. Such an operation was only performed under extreme precautions. “I think it is an ethical rule of the profession to have a consultation in such cases,” he said. More women gave evidence and the case was adjourned until to-morrow.
