ANOTHER ALERT
London’s Eighth In Succession LONDON, October 24. For the eighth night in succession London had an alert on Saturday, but the guns did not go into action and no bombs were reported in the London area. Enemy activity was over parts of I East Anglia and the south-east of i England, where bombs were dropped at several places, causing slight I damage but no casualties. Problem of the Sneak Raider i Fast sneak fighter-bombers which ■ swoop across London’s night, skies at a great height have presented British experts with a new problem with which ! they are grappling. The raiders dive 1 across the whole area, losing half their I height in a plunge which steps up their speed and makes the Job of antiaircraft gunners more difficult They release their bombs at random during the dive. Mr B. J. Schonland, a former Professor of Geophysics al Johannesburg University, and Dr. D. W. Ewer, of Cambridge University, have devised new equipment which it is believed will defeat the new tactics. These consist of spotting for the gin is in the dark
