PERSONAL
Colonel H. M. Foster, N.Z.S.C., at present Commandant, Central Military District, has been appointed commander, Area 1. Auckland, and will take up his new duties about the beginning of November. He will be succeeded in the Central Military District by Brigadier A. B. Williams, D. 5.0., R.N.Z.A., who for 13 months was head of the New Zealand Joint Staff Mission to Washington.
Advice that Captain W. S. Cottrill, son of Colonel W. S. Cottrill, of Brisbane, formerly officer in charge of the Salvation Army in Auckland, is in a Japanese internment camp at Changsi, has been received by his wife, now in Brisbane. Captain and Mrs Cottrill volunteered for Chinese missionary work in 1940, and on the eve of the fall of Singapore Mrs Cottrill and her infant son. with 500 children, were evacuated to Sydney. Captain Cottrill remained to care for orphans. The postcard revealing his whereabouts was posted in November, 1942.
