WAIMATE BOWLING CLUB
Season Opened SOUTH CANTERBURY BADG’’ PRESENTED Visitors from Timaru and Oamaru were among those present at the opening of the Waimate Bowling Club’s i season, when there was a good attend- ’ ance of members and friends. Mr J. M. Wilson (president of the club), in welcoming members and visitors, spoke of the good fellowship associated with the game of bowls, and expressed the hope that the new season would prove as enjoyable as last season had been. Greetings and best wishes from North Otago and South Canterbury bowlers were expressed by Mr J. I Dunbar and Mr E. C. Scales. The Mayor (Mr W. F. Boland) expressed hopes for the success of the season, and the club’s patron, Mr G., Dash, entertained the gathering with a characteristic speech. A feature of the function was the presentation by Mr Scales on behalf of the South Canterbury Centre, of the representative badge to Mr R. Cameron, winner of the champion of champion singles at Timaru. The kitty was thrown up' by the Mayoress (Mrs W. F. Boland) and Mrs J. M. Wilson played the first bowl. Ladies’ Golf A donation of £2 to the Mayoress’s fund for soldiers’ parcels was made at the annual meeting of the Waimate Ladies’ Golf Club. The club is also sending parcels to 10 members of the men’s club who are serving overseas. Officers elected were: Club captain, Miss A. M. Jones; vice-captain, Mrs L. W. Leslie; president, Mrs P. Grant; vice-president. Mrs J. W. Hayes; secretary, Miss E. Bitchener; treasurer, Mrs I. H. Schrader; committee, Mesdames E. B. Fraser, F. Ruddenklau, G. H. O. Barclay, A. Dyer, T. Waldie and N. A.
