N. Z. ELECTION
Comment By “The Times” N.Z.P.A.—Special Correspondent (Rec. 7.30 p.m.) LONDON. Sent 28. "The Times,” in a leader on the New Zealand General Election, declares that the striking features nave been the large Labour majority in Service votes which saved Government seats in several constituencies. “This may be an expression of gratitude for the care shown for the welfare of servicemen and their families both during and after the war, but it reflects the general conviction that the Government has conducted New Zealand’s share of the war with vigour, determination and efficiency, and that in the present critical situation it would be safer f o let them keep on with their work. With the parties more evenly divided, Parliament will gain in critical efficiency, and as n brake on any tendency to use the war situation for partisan political objects " Reference is also made Lu the farmers’ vote. “The Times” adds: “They now seem to be reverting to their old political leanings. The immediate cause may be resentment against the Act regulating the sale of land.’
