W.E.A. COUNCIL

Reports On Lectures At the monthly meeting of the W E A Council Mr G. Griffiths presided and the following members were present'—Mesdames E. J. Mirams and F A Hilton, Miss Pugh, Messrs E. W. Jones. D. Loder. A. M. Paterson, Watson and J. Gardiner. The chairman extended a welcome to Mr D. Loder, delegate from the South Canterbury Branch of the N.Z. Teachers’ Institute, and Miss Pugh, class secretary for the series of lectures on “China —The Future Pacific Power? The secretary was directed to send a letter of thanks to the Timaru Borough Council for the use of the Council room for Dr Bevan-Brown’s lectures, while the E.P.S. was occupying the Trades Hall. The class secretary reported that the series of lectures my Miss E. M. Smith on “Twentieth Century Literature." had concluded. The secretary was directed to send a letter of appreciation to Miss Smith, for the excellent series of lectures and also to congratulate her on her new appointment as organisingtutor for women's adult education, in the Auckland district. Miss Pugh reported that the series of lectures bv the Rev. W. Wisdom, MA. had also concluded. The attendance had been good and the lectures most Interesting. She thought it a pitv that there was not a better attendance of secondary school pupils at lectures of this type, and suggested that the W.E.A. should seek the cooperation of the High School teachers in the matter. A vote of thanks was accorded the class secretary for her work and the secretary was directed to send a letter of thanks to Mr Wisdom. Mr Watson, secretary of the class on mental health, reported that the lectures were being well attended, and the students, judging by the discussion period were finding the subject of exceeding interest. It was decided to ask Dr. Bevan-Brown to give one lecture on the problem of child delinquency and one on applied psychology in relation to adults. It was decided to change the night of the monthly meeting from the last Fridav in the month, to the first, to avoid clashing with the monthly meeting of the South Canterbury Council for Adult Education.
