FINANCE BILL
ELECTION CANDIDATES’ DISQUALIFICATION (F.0.P.R.) WELLINGTON. Aug. 24 “What about disqualifications from local bodies?” asked the Leader of the Opposition (Mr S. G. Holland) in the House to-day when, during the consideration of the Finance Bill, the Minister of Finance (the Hon. W. Nash) was explaining that, the clause in the measure removed the disqualification of candidates for election to Parliament who had received commissions on subscriptions to the Liberty Loan. Mr Holland said there was a case in Christchurch where the sale of scrip had led to the disqualification of a member of a local body. “That Is something that ought, perhaps, to be represented.” replied the Minister. "I don’t think in cases of that kind persons should be disqualified from representing people on local bodies and in Parliament." He thought it might bo a matter for the Minister of Internal Affairs or the Minister of Justice.
