AUTUMN MEETING AT WASHDYKE
Best In History Of Club Splendid Contest For Cup The South Canterbury autumn meeting at Washdyke on Saturday proved the most successful in the history of the Club. The number of starters and the attendance of spectators were the highest yet recorded, and the investments totalled £34,185/10/-, against £24,717/10/- last April. The largest previous turnover was £25,680 at the spring meeting earlier in the season. The track was slightly slower than usual as a result of Friday’s rain, but it provided nice going. Except in the two harness races, which produced colourless finishes, the sport was of a high standard. Once again the Cup, contested by a field of Great Autumn standard, was the highlight of the programme. Arctic Dawn snatched first money on the post from St. Cloud, with Little Secret just too late to overhaul both. The only unsatisfactory feature of a memorable meeting was the full hour’s lapse from timetable. Results:— TEKAPO HURDLES Of £170; U miles. 5/4 —R. J.
