British Repayment

(Rec. 10 p.m.) LONDON, April 11. Fifty Spitfires which are being assembled on an Iraqian airfield will pay back one of the war's most dramatic debts.

The British Command, during the dark days of the Egyptian retreat, asked the Russian Command to spare them every bomber possible from the American planes passing through Persia to Russia. The Russians, in spite of their own problems, immediately diverted 40 Boston bombers from Persia to Egypt, where they helped stop Rommel. The Russians asked for 50 Spitfires in return, and they are now being sent.
