SYDNEY STRIKE

Action Against Men

SYDNEY, April 10.

The Commonwealth Prime Minister (Mr J. Curtin) has ordered the cancellation of the Sydney wharf labourers’ manpower exemptions if the 4000 strikers do not return to work by noon on Monday.

It is understood, however, that Mr Curtin has agreed to defer action until Tuesday when the result of the secret ballot of strikers will be known.

The cancellation of the strikers’ manpower exemptions would mean that they could be called up for the Army or Civilian Construction Corps or any other work which the manpower authorities might direct.
