STRICTER CONTROL

Movement Of Labour In Britain RUGBY, January 28. Immediate steps to be taken for the further control of the movement of labour were announced in the House of Commons by the Minister of Labour <Mr Ernest Bevin). They include: (1) The inclusion of women up to 40 in controlled employment. Hitherto the order included women to 30. •2) An order requiring employers to notify the Ministry of the termination of the employment of certain classes of employees in order to prevent the loss of their services to essential war industries. <3> Wider use of the powers of direction to non-seheduled work. Includin'-, part-time work These arrangements are essential owing to the necessity of transferring large numbers of persons to work not covered by essential work. Broadly, said Mr Bevin, this meant compulsory part-time work for childless married women. The order will come into force on February 22.
