SHIPPING MISHAP

TE AROHA TOUCHES SANDBANK

(N.Z.P.A.) WESTPORT. Jan. 29. The motor vessel Te Aroha. when leaving Little Wanganui at about 4 p.m. to-day with a. full load of timber for Wellington, touched a sandbank when crossing the bar. The vessel turned broadside on and, eventually, the master, Captain Sawyers, by good seamanship backed out stem first. A roller hit a deck house at the aft end of the ship, and it was washed off the vessel. No one was hurt and the hull is not damaged or leaking. The master decided to proceed to Westport, arriving at 9 pm.
