BIG PROGRAMME
Prefabricated Buildings
(N.Z.P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 29. Arrangements for a large number of prefabricated buildings for use outside New Zealand have been made by the Minister of Public Works and Rehabilitation, the Hon. R. Semple. Announcing this to-night Mr Semple said that the manufacture of these various units would absorb all the available labour in those centres where no defence, or only limited private work, was being carried out. The Minister said that he had instructed the Commissioner of Works, Mr Fletcher, so to organise the placing of orders that the facilities available, particularly in small towns in the South Island, and those centres where machinery, material and men were available, would be used to the maximum.
Emphasising that he had had considerable negotiations to arrange for the building of these prefabricated units in this country, as against simply sending out materials, the Minister said that it was very satisfactory that New Zealand should be. in a position to assist, through its materials and manpower, in the provision of all types of prefabricated buildings which would play a very important part in the advance towards Tok io.
