WELCOME HOME
Soldiers Honoured Lance-Corporal E. S. Elworthy, Private T. McNamara and Private F. Brown, were honoured at a function held at Geraldine. Mr P. H. Davis (deputy-Mayor) presided. Mr Davis said that he hoped that they would be home again inside a year and that 1943 would see the end of the struggle. On behalf of the Returned Services’ Association, Mr J. H. Polhill wished the men luck and a safe return. Mr K. Mackenzie spoke on behalf of the Geraldine County, and Mrs Hislop presented each man with a parcel of comforts from the Red Cross and a wallet from the Farewell Committee. In replying, Lance-Corporal Elworthy thanked them for their kind wishes and the parcels and hoped that they would soon return. Opportunity was also taken to honour Privates Athol Wills and Henry Waller and to welcome them home to Geraldine. Mr Davis thanked them on behalf of the people of Geraldine for their service to their country and wished them every success in the future. The men were afterwards entertained at a successful dance by the Social Club.
