SWINE FEVER PROVES COSTLY (10.45 p.m.) CANBERRA. January 26. Swine fever has cost the Australian pig industry £1,000,000. In New South Wales alone 800 tons of pigs have had to be destroyed. WAR RISK INSURANCE REDUCED (N.Z.P.A.) WELLINGTON, Jan. 26. The war insurance rate for New Zealand coastal voyages has been reduced to 15/per cent. DREDGING RETURN (N.Z.P.A.) WELLINGTON, Jan. 25. Gillespie’s Beach wash-up secured 370 z of gold in 124 hours from 15,444 cubic yards. TEMUKA SALE SLIGHT EASING IN VALUES There was a large entry of fat cattle at the Temuka sale yesterday and offerings were up to the usual prices. With the exception of fat lambs and store cattle, values in most sections were inclined to ease, but, nevertheless, satisfactory sales were recorded. There was an offering of 150 head of fat cattle, the majority of the yarding consisting of old cows. Values were:— Fat Cattle. —Fat steers, best £l4 to £15'12'6, medium £l3 to £l3/17/6, light £ll to £l2/7/6; fat heifers, best £lO to £ll 12 6. medium £B/12/6 to £9/12 6. light £7/17/6 to £B/17/6; fat cows, best £8 to £9 'l7/6, medium £6/17/6 to £7/17/6, light E 5 to £5/17/6.
