MR COLIN BALLANTYNE
Death Of Well Known Business Man Early yesterday morning the death occurred in Christchurch of Mr Colin Thome Ballantyne, a well-known Timaru business man. Son of the late Mr William Ballantyne and Mrs Ballantyne, of Christchurch, he was bom in that city in 1904. He entered Christ College in 1913 and in a few years was a school prefect and a member of the first XV. On leaving school in 1923 he went to Lincoln Agricultural College for a period, and later entered the firm of J. .Ballantyne and Co., Ltd., Christchurch. In 1928 he came to the Timaru branch of the firm, where, he remained for more than 12 months, and then went to England to gain further experience. After an absence of four years, he returned to the Timaru branch to take charge of the advertising section, afterwards becoming assistant manager, and in 1938 he was appointed manager. In 1941 Mr Ballantyne obtained leave of absence to join the wireless section of the Air Force. During the time he lived in Timaru Mr Ballantyne took a keen interest in civic affairs. He was a member of the South Canterbury Chamber of Commerce and for a period was president of the Junior Chamber of Commerce. Mr Ballantyne was esteemed in the business community. Keenly interested in science, he was one of the pioneer amateur wireless enthusiasts. He was always interested in sport and was for some years a member of the Glen-iti Golf Ctib where, as a member of the committee, he worked actively in the club's Interests. In 1931 Mr Ballantyne married Miss Myra Edmonds, of Christchurch, and is survived by his widow and three children.
