Dutch Fuhrer The Paris radio announced that Mussert, chief of the Dutch Nazi Party, has been named fuhrer of the Dutch people. Strike Settled An Ottawa message says that the strike of steel workers has been settled. Population Shifted Thirty thousand residents of the old harbour district of Marseilles have been shifted to places outside the city. The demolition of the area has been ordered by the Nazis. The French police have arrested 6000 persons who are alleged to be a serious menace to the population and closed 1000 bars and cafes. A Dramatic Answer Mr Lewis Sebring, the correspondent of the “Herald-Tribune” in Australia, points out that 34 of the 55 . Distinguished Service Crosses awarded by General MacArthur have gone to members of the 32nd former National Guard Division which was under fire for the first time in this war, dramatically answering the question whether American citizen soldiers are able to fight after two years’ training. Germans Executed Eighteen German soldiers were executed at Christiansund after a court-martial had found that they had been in contact with the enemy. Chief Post-W?r Task The Hon. Walter Nash, in a speech at the Housing Council lunch in New York, said one of the chief pOst-war tasks was building more and better homes on a scale infinitely vaster than ever before. He could not conceive a single project which would yield richer rewards in the national well-being. Death for Saboteurs The Berlin radio said the Vichy Government had decreed penalties, including death, for public transport sabotage. Marketing of Wheat A Washington message says that 235,000.000 bushels of wheat from the ex-Government’s stocks have been placed on the market in order to curb a further advance in prices. Officials estimate that speculators are holding 500,000,000 bushels hoping for higher prices in future.
