TEMUKA SOLDIERS IN ITALY
Letter From Prison Camp “R.S.A. Great Post-War Hope” A letter sent to the Temuka Returned Services’ Association from a number of Temuka soldiers now in a prison camp in Italy was presented at the meeting on Monday by Mr A. R. Beck, to whom it was addressed. Mr Beck pointed out that the letter had been much appreciated by many people to whom he had shown it. The letter would be of interest in years to come, and he offered to have it framed and placed in the R.S.A. rooms. Mr Beck’s offer was accepted with thanks. The letter, which was signed by B. E. Gale, J. R. B. Heron, D. O. King, Maurice A. Cameron, A. W. Allan, Michael Nelham Watson, Maitland G. Nelham Watson, L. Lamb, J. M. Nolan, J. A. Morrison, reads as follows: — “Dear Fellow Diggers, As Christmas draws near, though in less fortunate circumstances than a year ago, we pen this note to serve as a reminder that the good people of Temuka are not forgotten in Camp 52. “Each day we count as a day nearer to the R.S.A. reunions, which will have a new social meaning for us. We realise that your organisation is our great post-war hope. We hear from time to time how you are all endeavouring to carry on the usual run of life, and know that we are not forgotten. We are looking forward to the future when we shall all be re-united. Please accept our best of good wishes for the festive season, and may the New Year fulfill all our much desired hopes.”
