A Japanese Reverse (Rec. 8.25) CHUNGKING, Jan. 8. The communique announcing that the Chinese had recaptured Lihuang, the provisional capital of Annwei, said that 1000 Japanese were killed or wounded. One Japanese column retreating north-west is at present striving to fight its way out. The Chinese are dissatisfied with the quantity of lend-lea.se aid arriving, but they deny reports of a crisis in relations between China and the United States, states the Chungking correspondent of the United Press. Responsible officials said that it was realised that there were shipping difficulties. but, they pointed out that. it. is also difficult for Britain and America to send supplies to Russia. Over a third of the Russia-bound convoys through the White Sea have been sunk. The officials asked why should Brit-tin and America hesitate to make similar sacrifices for China.
