FOOD DIFFICULTIES
Position In India
LONDON, January 6. India's food difficulties, which are rather serious in some parts of the I country, particularly Bombay and CalI cutta, " have at last attracted the attention of Nationalist politicians and the press, says the New Delhi correspondent of “The Times.” These difficulties are not new. but the leaders of popular-parties thus far have been too busy to devote much attention to them. Indications arc. however, that the Nationalists intend to take up the question in a big way. The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce has already warned the Government that there will be riots and disorders unless the shortage of food grains is remedied. The Federation. incidentally, was distinctly unhelpful to the Government when the All-Indian Congress launched the recent disorders, it demands that the (Government arrange with Britain to ship wheat to India from Australia, but the secretary to the Food Department has already informed the Federation that this is being attempted. Actually India produces enough food for her needs. The Government’s difficulty would be to induce hoarded to concealed ’ain into the market.
