WAIMATE SCOUTS IN CAMP

The Waimate Boy Scouts who are attending the camp at Raincliff will return home on Friday. The boys are remaining longer in camp in order to assist as road guides to-day, when local body members and farmers will visit Raihcliff to meet his Excellency the Governor-General, Sir Cyril Newall. The 40 to 50 Waimate Scouts at the camp are under the charge of Mr L. C. McLauchlan. “The Camp Chief. Captain S. A. Smith, of the Salvation Army in Waimate, who is also the Group Scouter, by his able control and knowledge of camp life and Scouting has created an atmosphere of happiness among the boys,” said Commissioner J. C. Bentley. BOWLING MATCH Older bowlers in combined rinks played a challenge match on the Waimate green on Monday against the younger members, and won by 5J games to 45 games. HOLIDAY FISHING A large number of anglers visited the Waitaki in the region of the month during the holidays, but although fish were taken, it is reported that catches generally were small. At one time no fewer than 23 rods were out on this side of the river. It is understood that some success was obtained by those who visited the Waihao.
