HIGH HONOUR
New Zealand Doctor
LONDON, January 5.
The Society of Chemical Industry has conferred honorary membership on Dr. H. G. Denham, rector of Canterbury University College. The High Commissioner for New Zealand (Mr W. J. Jordan) accepted the scroll of membership on Dr. Denham’s behalf.
Dr. William Cullen, who is the society’s president, said that Dr. Denham’s career "illustrates to a remarkable degree the Influence which a man of high scientific attainment can exert on the general life of a community when he is sufficiently public spirited to sacrlflc all thought of leisure.”
Mr Jordan, replying, thanked the society. “New Zealand is grateful to the society for the assistance, encouragement, and recognition which it gives to those studying chemistry,” he said.
There are only 16 honorary members of the society in the world, and Dr. Denham was one of five prominent people who were elected on Monday.
