CHILE’S POSITION

May Break With Axis

(Rec. 12.5 a.m.) BUENOS AIRES, January 6.

The Associated Press of America says that the Argentine Government has been informed that the Chilean President, Senor Juan Rios, will request Congress to break off diplomatic and commercial relations with the Axis next Friday. A high Foreign Office source made this revelation a few hours after the departure of Dr. Morales, the Chilean Interior Minister for Santiago. Dr. Morales is completing a tour of the United States, Brazil, and Argentina, in which he interviewed the Presidents of the three countries. The severance of Chile’s relations would leave Argentina the lone country in the Western Hemisphere maintaining diplomatic connections with the Axis.
