Polish Council Protests

A cable message received from London by Count K. Wodzicki, Polish Consul-General in New Zealand, states that at a meeting of the Polish National Council the 27 members present signed a motion in connection with the reported mass murder of Jews in Poland. On behalf of the Polish Government the Deputy-Premier, M. Mikolajczyk, told the National Council some terrible facts, based on documents received from Poland, and read the Polish Government's protest, saying. inter alia: “The Polish Government is fully aware that the basic condition governing really effective counter-measures against German atrocities would be onlv one—to shorten the time of the .sufferings bv a quick defeat of Germany. The Polish Government defends all its citizens, regardless of religion and nationality, and does it both in the interests of the State and in the name of human feelings and Christian principles.” After that statement the National Council adopted a resolution solemnly protesting against the bestialities committed against the Jews in Poland, appealing to all Allied nations, and all those nations suffering to-day with the Polish nation under German domination, “to undertake with united Strength immediate action against the trampling down and violation of all moral human principles by Germany, and against the declared extermination of Polish and other nations, the most horrible expression of which has been the mass murder of Jews in Poland and other parts of oppressed Europe."
