PRIMARY PRODUCTION COUNCIL

Exclusion Of Reporters

Defeated

(N.Z.P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH. Jan. 6. Immediately the North Canterbury District Council of Primary Production met to-day the members went into committee to consider whether the meeting should be open to the press. More than an hour was occupied in discussing a letter from the National Council of Primary Production, Wellington, which supported the stand of the Minister of Agriculture, the Hon. J. G. Barclay, who has objected to the presence of the press. Hitherto, the North Canterbury Council has admitted press representatives to its meetings. A motion that the National Council’s letter be approved and that its request (to support the Minister) be acceded to, was defeated. Practically the whole of the Council’s business, however, was conducted in committee throughout the afternoon.
