New Year Festivity

The attendance at the Timaru Scottish Society’s New Year concert was a record and the performers were enthusiastically applauded. The Chief, Mr E. A. Wright, welcomed the visitors, who included the Mayor and Mayoress, Mr and Mrs A. E. S. Hanan, and Messrs N. Burns, president of the South Canterbury Caledonian Society and R. Munro, president of the South Canterbury Pipers and Dancers’ Association. The programme was as follows: Opening song, “A Guid New Year.” Messrs. A. Nicol. C. Lyons and Chris. Kelly. Songs, Misses Anne Kerr, Kathleen Connolly. Song in burlesque, Miss Reta Cook. Songs, Messrs. Alan Shrimpton. J. G. Young, A. Nicol, Chris. Kelly, C. Lyons. Humorous song, Mr H. J. Dodds. Humorous item, Messrs Alan Shrimpton and H. S. Dodds. Piano selection, Mr C. Parnell. National dance, Misses Rena Jacobs, Dorothy Lyne. Audrey Mackay, Merrill Welford, Ruth Brown.
