MINIATURE ENGINE
Cost £l2OO To Build
A favourite attraction this year at the Bay, not only with children but also with adults, is the miniature railway train. Even those who do not have a ride pause awhile to watch it complete at least one circle of its diminutive railroad track. Originally imported for the Auckland exhibition, this miniature train has had at least one season in almost every large town in the Dominion. Its capacity is two horse power, with a 901 b steam pressure, and has two carriages each capable of carrying 10 people. Its gauge is 18in, which is less than half that of the gauge of the New Zealand railways. The rails are easily lifted and it takes about half a day to relay them. “We do not have any trouble with it,” said Mr J. Lumby, the owner, when questioned by a “Herald” representative yesterday. "It is not like some of the 'home made’ ones.” he remarked. Mr Lumby stated that the railway was made in New York and cost about £l2OO when new. Mr Lumby remarked that he had been bringing various amusements to the Bay carnivals for the past 30 years.
