ARMY OFFICERS

Promotions Announced All Serving Overseas (N.Z.P.A.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 8. The following appointments and promotions of officers of the Second N.Z.E.F. overseas were gazetted tonight:— Lieutenant-Colonel (acting brigadier) J. T. Burrows to be brigadier (temp.) while commanding an infantry brigade. The following majors to be lieu-tenant-colonels (temp.) while commanding infantry battalions: R. W. Harding, M.M., C. L. Pleasants, M.C., and R. E. Romans.

Major Barker is appointed to command the Maori Battalion and is granted the temporary rank of lieu-tenant-colonel. Major (acting lieutenant-colonel) D. J. Fountaine, M.C., is to be lieutenantcolonel (temp.) while commanding an infantry battalion. Captain R. S. Pearson to be major (temp.) while employed as brigade major of an infantry brigade. Major (temporary lieutenant-colonel) C. M. Williamson, E.D., is to be lieu-tenant-colonel and Major J. K. Robbie is to be lieutenant-colonel (temp.) while commanding a machine-gun battalion. In the New Zealand Ordnance Corps Colonel T. King is to be brigadier (temp.) while employed as deputy director of ordnance services, general headquarters, Middle East Forces. In the New Zealand Artillery Majors J. M. Mitchell and R. C. Queree (temp, lieutenant-colonels) are gazetted lieutenant-colonels. Major W. A. T. McGuire, of the New Zealand is gazetted lieutenantcolonel. In the New Zealand Railway Construction and Maintenance Group Captain Christie is to .be major (temp.) while commanding the New Zealand engineer and ordnance training depot. Brigadier C. E. Weir, D. 5.0., New Zealand Artillery, is appointed officer in charge of the New Zealand Artillery, Second N.Z.E.F., in addition to his present appointment. Lieutenant-Colonel A. H. Andrews, New Zealand Ordnance Corps, is appointed officer-in-charge of the New Zealand Ordnance Corps in addition to his present appointment. Major H. E. Crosse, M.C., is appointed to command the New Zealand Reception Depot, and Major I. A. Hart is appointed second-in-command of the Maori Battalion. Major J. O. Kelsey, New Zealand Ordnance Corps, is appointed staff officer, ordnance services, Second N.Z.E.F., and Majors H. M. McElroy, H. M. Green and T. C. Campbell, M.C., are appointed the respective seconds-in-command of the three infantry battalions.
