MORE TROOPS NEEDED

Position In Solomons (11.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, Sept. 14. “There is no cause for complacency over the Solomons.” writes Colonel Frederick Palmer, military correspondent of the North American Newspaper Alliance. “There are still Japanese on Guadalcanal We must send sufficient soldiers to chase them out even if it means taking troops away from the European front. The Japanese have not abandoned the idea of recovering the Solomons, which protect the sea route to Australia. They also badly want Port Moresby, which would complete their chain of bases commanding the waters north of Australia. This does not threaten the populace of the east coast of Australia, but it provides the Japanese with a powerful lever.”
