GERMAN PORT ATTACKED

Wilhelmshaven Is Latest Target British Official Wireless RUGBY, September 15. The R.A.F. last night attacked Wilhelmshaven when heavy damage was reported. Two of our bombers are missing. The Berlin radio says a number of British bombers raided a German harbour town on the northern coast last night. Fires were started and some damage was done. “ A very strong force of bombers attacked north-west Germany on Sunday night, Bremen being the main objective,” states an Air Ministry communique. “ Nineteen bombers are missing.” This was the Royal Air Force s 100th raid on Bremen. At dawn on Monday single bombers attacked other targets in north-west Germany. Fighters made intruder patrols over northern France during the night. Bremen is Germany's second most important port and it is a big supply centre. The Germans admit that casualties were heavy and that the damage was widespread. The attack was the second on Bremen this month and in the last one, only a week ago, giant four-engined bombers participated in what was described as the fiercest air battle of the war over Germany. A squadion of Canadian bombers took part in the raid on Bremen and another strong force of Canadian machines attacked targets in northwest Germany. Canadian fighters were also active during the night. According to German reports the casualties in the Bremen raid have been described as heavy. Russians Bomb Ploesti Red bombers, in addition to attacking Konigsberg and starting many large fires, also raided military and Industrial objectives in Rumania. Bucharest was bombed and the main oil centre of Ploesti where the principal oil refineries are located, was left in flames. One Russian bomber was lost. Britain had another raid-free night. An enemy bomber was shot down off the north-east coast of England by a British fighter on Monday. No other air activity was reported over Britain to-day.
