Women For Armed Forces (P.A.) WELLINGTON, June 12. “The War Council met yesterday,” said the Prime Minister (Rt. Hon. P. Fraser) in a statement to-night, “to consider reports submitted by the Defence and Military Affairs Committee and Primary and Secondary Industries Committee. Both these committees met on Wednesday last Recommendations had been made by the Council to the War Cabinet as to the means to be adopted to recruit women for the Armed Forces of whom a large number are now required on the organisation of the publicity and information services, and the provision of labour for essential industries and undertakings.” “The position in regard to the use of manpower in the Armed Forces was discussed, and recommendations on this question had been advanced,” said Mr Fraser. “The Council has also proposed that a number of industries and undertakings should be declared essential. The Council was informed of the more recent developments in the strategic situation in the Pacific, and of the measures which were being taken in this Dominion to perfect our defences.”
