BOWLING FINALS PLAYED
SUCCESS OF VISITORS The tournament conducted by the South Canterbury Women’s Bowling Centre, which commenced on Tuesday, concluded yesterday, when the fiuals of the pairs and fours were played. Throughout the fixture splendid weather was enjoyed, and the entire programme was completed without a hitch. Yesterday morning the post-sectional play of the fours was decided on the Timaru green, also the semi-final of the pairs. Nine fours commenced the concluding rounds, but life morning play reduced them to four. The final was played between Phoenix (Mrs Ashton) and Ashbury (Mrs Henshaw), Phoenix winning 22-18. The finalists In the pairs were Beckenham (Mrs McDonald! and Shirley (Mrs Harold), Shirley winning 19-12. At the conclusion of the play, the president of the Centre (Mrs E. C. Scales) congratulated the -winners and runners-up. and presented the trophies. Results were: Fours First Round: West End (Mrs Osborn) 12. West End (Mrs Entwhistle) 11. Second Round: Ashbury (Mrs Henshaw) 11, Kia Toa (Mrs Butcher) 8; Awamoa (Mrs Rusbatch) 14. Shirley (Mrs Palmer) 12; Phoenix (Mrs Ashton) 15, West End (Mrs Dewar) 13; Kia Toa (Mrs Greenfield) 17, West End (Mrs Osborn) 7. Semi-finals: Ashbury 18, Awamoa 7; Phoenix 13, Kia Toa 11. Final: Phoenix, Mesdames Bremner. Jamieson, Miss Symington, Mrs Ashton (s) 32; Ashbury. Mesdames Clark, Whitton, Luck, Henshaw (s) 18. Pairs Semi-finals: Beckenham, Mesdames Brownie and McDonald (s) 9. Dunedin, Mesdames Rewcastle and Abbott (s) 8: Shirley, Mesdames Oliver and Harold (s) 13, Timaru, Mesdames Steven and Richards (s) 6. Final: Shirley 19, Beckenham 12.
