HELP FOR SOVIET

R.A.F. Keeps Germans Occupied LONDON, March 5. Group Captain W. Helmore, of the R.A.F.. in a broadcast to-night, said that the bombing of Germany was keeping 1.000.000 skilled Germans occupied in manning anti-aircraft guns, searchlights and balloons, who would otherwise be taking part in the attack on Russia. Large numbers of the Germans were also engaged on A.R.P. and fire fighting. Captain Helmore incorporated in his broadcast the story of the heroic sacrifice made by the captain of a bomber crew which had been shot down into the sea. Five members of the crew clambered into their rubber dinghy, knowing that it would take seven days to reach land and there was sufficient food and water for only four of them to live. During the second night the captain of the crew disappeared and the remaining four members of the crew were dragged to the beach four days later.
