LAWN TENNIS WIN FOR SOUTH CANTERBURY
Representative Match Good Standard Shown Tennis of a high standard was seen when the. annual representative match between Mid-Canterbufy and South Canterbury was played on the Maori Park Courts on Saturday afternoon. Playing conditions were ideal. South Canterbury beat the visitors by 17 matches to seven. Results (MidCahterbury names first):— Men’s singles: H. A. Barnett beat W. E. Renton 9-1, E. P. Bryant lost to J. L. Mac Kay 8-9, C. A. Stanley lost to G. R. Innes-Jones 2-9, W. I. Watkins lost to J. S. Satterthwalte 5-9, L. R Clarke lost to W. A. Lewis 3-9, E T. Rishworth lost to D. Gardner 5-9. Men’s doubles: Barnett and Bryant beat Renton and Satterthwaite 9-8, Stanley and Watkins lost to Mac Kay and Innes-Jones 2-9, Clarke and Rishworth lost to Lewis and Gardner 3-9 Women’s singles: Mrs Dickens beat Miss B. Shirtcliffe 9-1. Miss D Wall lost to Miss E. Gawith 6-9, Mrs Parker lost to Miss B. Sutherland 4-9 Miss Fowke lost to Miss B. Drennan 3-9. Mrs Rishworth lost to Miss J. Doyle 5-9 Miss Grice lost to Miss M. Turnbull 6-9. Women’s doubles: Mrs Dickens and Miss Wall beat Misses Shirtcliffe and Gawith 9-6. Mesdames Parker and Rishworth lost to Misses Sutherland and Drennan 6-9, Misses Grice and Fowke beat Misses Doyle and Turnbull 9-6. Mixed doubles: Barnett and Mrs Dickens beat Renton and Miss Shirtcliffe 9-3. Bryant and Miss Wall lost to Mac Kay and Miss Gawith 7-9 Watkins and Mrs Parker lost to InnesJones and Miss Sutherland 6-9, Stanley and Miss Fowke beat Satterthwaite and Miss Drennan 9-6, Rishworth and Mrs Rishworth lost to Lewis and Miss Doyle 6-9, Clarke and Miss Grice lost to Gardner and Miss Turnbull 4-9 South Canterbury 17 matches. 184 games; Mid-Canterbury seven matches 144 games.
