DRIVE FOR PLANES

May Turn Tide Of Battle (Rec. 11.10). WASHINGTON, Feb 22. Speaking at Topeka, Kansas, Senator Chandler, a member of the Senate Military Affairs Committee, predicted that the United States will make 50,000 military aeroplanes in 1942. He asserted that America had already surpassed Germany’s production rate of aeroplanes, and added that as soon as these planes were transported to bases where they can be used against the enemy the tide of battle will turn. “We will suffer serious and grave losses before we are ready to carry the flght to the enemy, but it may be possible to save Australia, which will provide a magnificent base for our use when we are able to take the offensive again. We should also get bases from the Russians in Vladivostock from where we will be able to carry the fight directly to the island of Japan.”
