Their Excellencies, the GovernorGeneral, Sir Cyril Newall, and Lady Newall, will leave Wellington this afternoon to pay their first official visits to Feilding, Stratford and Hawera. Their Excellencies will return to Wellington on Friday.—Press Association. Gunner F. S. Oliver, previously reported missing, is now reported wounded and prisoner of war in a German military hospital in Greece. Commander G. W. Morrison, R.N., who was on shore duty at Hong Kong at the time sf the Japanese attack, is reported missing. Mr and Mrs Barnes, have been advised that their son, Private John Barnes, is a prisoner of war in Italy, also that Trooper R. Barnes is safe and well. Dr. A. W. H. West, of Dunedin, has been appointed temporary lecturer in modern languages at Auckland University College. He is an ex-pupil of that institution, from which he graduated as Master of Arts with first class honours in Latin and French in 1927. He was awarded the French travelling scholarship and was at the University of Paris from 1928 to 1931, graduating from there as Doctor of Languages. Lately, on account of the absence of Mr R. G. C. McNab on active service, he has been acting headmaster at the John McGlashan College.
