GERALDINE ENFORCEMENT OF BLACKOUT
Street Lights Reduced In Township Lighting Wardens Appointed The removal of two-thirds of the street lights at Geraldine has made the town considerably darker and has moved the town a further step toward the enforcement of reduced lighting and the blackout. Within the next week shades should arrive for the remaining lights and when they are in place steps will be taken to see that all buildings within the area covered by The Downs, Raukapuka and the borough comply with the lighting regulations. The provision of a special room for a blackout and the covering of bare lights for reduced lighting is required. Street lights in the township were all out at one stage on Thursday evening and this disclosed a number of homes which were still offending by showing uncovered lights. Public buildings were among the offenders, and many fanlights showed light. Most of the residents in the area affected have taken steps to cover all bare lights and it is anticipated that the remaining buildings will be brought into line during the coming week. The reduced lighting controller for Geraldine is Mr J. M. Bishop, with Mr W. S. Parr as deputy-controller. The enforcement of reduced lighting is m the hands of the law and order section, with Constable J. Robertson in charge. He will be assisted by eight light! ig wardens who have been appointed as follows: The Downs, Messrs W. Watson and L. P. Scott; Raukapuka, lessrs J. J. Lysaght and Scott; North End, Messrs C. Stack and William Haig; South End, Messrs Alexander McPherson and F. J. F. Johnstone.
