Schools And Buildings For Hospitals (P.A.) AUCKLAND. Feb. 20. A survey of schools and other buildings which might be suitable for emergency hospital purposes was made to-dav by the Minister of Education (the Hon. H. G. R. Mason) and the Minister of Health (the Hon. A. H. Nordmeyer). They were accompanied by the Director of Education (Dr. Beeby) and the Director-General of Health (Dr. Watt). Mr Nordmeyer said that Mr Mason and he would hold further consultations to-morrow with officials of the Departments and representatives of the Auckland Hospital Board. They would proceed with the selection of sufficient buildings to provide the required accommodation and so classiiy them that if an emergency occurred, whether by air raid or epidemic the authorities would immediately know which buildings to take over first. Thereafter, if further accommodation were needed, they would have a definite plan to work with. The selection of schools as potential emergency hospitate added the Minister, did not mean that they would have to be vacated at once Children would continue to attend them until the need for emergency hospitals arose. Those of the schools first wanted would then be sent “u homes and the buildings converted at once for hospital purposes.
