LACK OF PROTECTIVE MEASURES
Auckland Primary Schools (P.A.) AUCKLAND. Feb. 19. A meeting of the Auckland Headmasters’ Association resolved to telegraph the Minister of Defence expressing deep concern at the lack of adequate protective measures for primary pupils. A telegram forwarded on Monday last stated: The conflicting views of the authorities regarding the dispersal of children along the road to their homes, the unsatisfactory situation owing to the uncertainty of the time available after the warning sirens, the lack of under surface shelter at schools, especially in the danger areas, and the non-existence of a completed evacuation seneme, are factors causing grave misgivings. The Association urgently requests a conference of the interests concerned and an urgent reply is requested. The Hon. F. Jones has replied stating that he has handed the telegram to the Minister of Manpower (the Hon. R. Semple) for his consideration.
